HEY I figured I should juxtapose these happy-sappy San Francisco scenes with some gritty-as-hell NYC stuff.  This is from a long time ago but it is timeless in my eyes.
Oh hey…a train station
Blocked out
I took this picture a few years ago, but today my brother asked for a subway photo for his website. So I dug this up from my Flickr.  This one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken.  I’ve taken a lot of pictures.  37,501 with my D90 alone (according to http://www.myshuttercount.com) (of course people have only seen like 1/40th of that).
Why do I like this stupid picture so much?
1.  a) It’s an old J train and not one of the nasty shiny new ones.  b) I used to live off the J.
2.  You can see the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges.
3.  You can see the cross-bars and traffic barriers of the Williamsburg Bridge, which are illuminated by overhead street lights.
4.  The woman is sitting in from of a NYC subway map and not some stupid advertisement.  She is illuminated by ugly interior train light.
5.  Sunset is nice, perhaps?

Lightroom didn’t have to work too hard for this one. There’s no photoshop layering.  One shutter click.

So lovely, I love you, elevated subway.
Classic

(Written 1.9 years ago on my way to a job interview)

Almost nothing in new york goes as planned.  It could be a simple as your train arriving late, thus making you late.  Or maybe your train arrives on time, but when the doors slide open you’re met with a car so full of passengers that it resembles a can of sardines.  You know you have to squeeze in or else you’ll be late.  So much for having the elbow room at apply your makeup during your commute.  It wasn’t this crowded yesterday!  Well at least the wrinkles in your jacket are getting pressed out.  the one that is un-ironed because you just had to sleep those seven more minutes, since you were out late or because your downstairs neighbors had a dance party until 4am, whose music you were subject to even through your pillow.

All of this is a good info to remember as one begins living life here.  You may as well give up all your previous notions of the following things:  time, money, sleep, food, cleanliness, personal space.
